Overview:
By mid-year (read: July 2nd @11:59 GMT -11), expect a new pet mechanic added to the game.
"Battle Sprites," as they're called, are customizable and come in three varieties:
The Drakon, a direct-damage dragon.
The Seraphynx, a party-buffing kat.
and the Maskeraith, a enemy-debuffing phantom.
Abilities will be triggered with a button press and will allegedly change depending on how the sprites are used, as well as materials given to them. The player will choose a "primary" sprite, but will have the ability to later get the others.
So, thoughts? Is it an interesting twist? Does it mean 000 has sold out? Is it a cute little kitty? Yes it is, yes it...

I of course would go for the kat. Not just for the looks, but also help augment my gunner position as a support role as well.
I can only imagine the horror if they allow pets in LD. I doubt they will, but if they do I hope it at least harms strikers the most.

One thing that concerns me is, the way they've got this worded,
It's going to suck hard if you only get to pick one and you can never change...These missions will teach players about Battle Sprites and allow them to try out each of the three starter sprites before ultimately choosing one to keep.

Maskeraith and Seraphynx in one party? Now you have to try in order to die.
I had the idea of equipment with party buffs for quite a long time now, OOO read my mind and here we are. It's a nice change to the game but I'd prefer them working on weapon balancing. Them swords b 2stronk.

From the official forums, it sounded like you would be able to get more than one. Maybe you get one free after doing the missions, and others must be payed for?

Hmm...I would go with the Drakon if I'm gonna keep up my Cobalt stuff. But kitties are always welcome.

Those are absolutely adorable! And.. because I generally don't closely follow most OOO's updates (excluding the GH update, of course 
), I'm interested to know if these new mission that let you try out the sprite and all that will cost anything. Like, does your original sprite actually cost something to obtain? I am certain, however, that the others ones that you can obtain later would cost somethin

Well of course no one knows for sure, but I am guessing that the first spirit will be free. Nick's posts kind of indicated that, low cost/free. I'm picturing a set of missions where you get to try them all out (and of course, pay the 10 energy fee for the elevator)

ah... good. I was hoping it'd be nothing more than the elevator fees... I mean, nobody knows for sure, like you said, but, we can always hope!
