Christmas Carol Creation Contest: Awesome Awards Abound!

Greetings, fellow holiday hombres! After kicking off the SK holiday season with a rousing session of caroling and playing delivery boy for our gelatinous benefactor, I hope you're all in a festive mood!

With those formalities out of the way, let me present to you the first of Aurora's Christmas contests, the first-ever-probably-not-going-to-be-annual Caroling Contest!

The rules are simple; write a song that incorporates elements of both Spiral Knights and the Holiday Season, and post it in this thread before Christmas Eve. At that point, the best entries will receive one of several fabulous prizes, including a penta-heart trinket, small arsenal of snowballs, and a pack of crowns in a pear tree*!

Restrictions on your song are fairly lax; keep it PG and feel free to reuse the tune/lyrics of a classic Christmas tune or write an entirely new composition. Be creative!

*Pear tree not part of offer.

Once upon a Christmas Eve
There were some little present thieves
Grinchlins and attacking fiends
There is no way to stop these demons

But halt! These are our mighty knights
Fighting at day and even moonlight
They shall save this Winterfest
And this may be their current quest

As the Spiral Knights descend
They know that this is not the end
Saving all these huge red presents
Little Grinchlins, not a chance

Snow-white Winterfest is now saved
Were all the children well behaved?
Christmas spirit all around
Not to forget the gain of pounds lol

Spiral HQ has done well
Impostoclaus bids farewell
But Aurora shouts "Don't yet leave!"
"We all wish you a merry Christmas Eve!"


I guess I can say I tried.

'Twas the knight before Winterfest, when all through the guildhall

Not a gremlin was stirring, not even a mender;

The stockings were hung by the mist well with care,

In hopes that impostoclause soon would be there;

The knights were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of CTR VH Brandishes danced in their heads;

And mamma in her Spiral Scale Helm, and I in my snipe hat,

Had just settled down for a long winterfest's nap,

When out in haven there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the dooer I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the same snow that had been there for at least a week

Gave the lustre of mid-day to snipes below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a miniature Toyota Sutra, and eight tiny jellydeer,

With a little old driver, so so fat and so slow,

I knew in a moment it must be Impostoclause.

More rapid than stalkers his jellydeer they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Valene! now, Oldtimer! now, Mushy and Goofio!

On, Ankukoflare! on Fallingsnow! on, Fradow and Tryptik!

To the top of cradle! to the top of the guildhall!

Now striker boost away! boost away! boost away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an guildhall, mount to the sky,

So up to the house-top the jellydeer they flew,

With the sleigh full of trinkets, and impostoclause too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

The squirming and oozing of each little jelly.

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

Down the chimney Impostoclause came with a bound.

He was dressed all in gelatinous ooze , from his head to his foot,

And his ooze was all tarnished with ashes and soot;

A bundle of trinkets he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a vender just opening his pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples (what dimples lol) how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His drooling little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the jelly of his chin was as white as the snow;

The a dusky pipe he held tight in his jelly,

And the smoke it encircled his head like a total war wreath;

He had a broad face that was also his belly,

That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old jelly,

And there it is!
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his Toyota Sutra , to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a wolver.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

"Happy Winterfest to all, and to all a good-night!"\

Snarby, the red nosed Wolver,
had a very shiny nose.

And if you ever saw it,
you would even say it glows.

All of the other Wolvers,
used to laugh and call him names.

They never let poor Snarby,
join in any Blast Network games.

Then one swarmy Winterfest Eve,
Impastaclaus came to say:

"Snarby with your nose so bright,
won't you deliver presents tonight?"

Then all the Wolvers loved him,
as they howled out with cheer,

Snarby the red nosed Wolver,
you'll go down in history!

Later that night I thought about it, but since you like it i guess I'll leave it.

Spoiler:

Frostifurs chilling and devilites lax,
taking their break from the holiday tax;
Puppies on standby, menders off dozing,
the Citadel locked off for its citywide closing.

The Clockworks itself seems to come to a halt:
the tunnel, the den, even the old treasure vault;
all of its fires dwindle down to a spark,
the late children left just to scream in the dark.

The Grinchlins, however? they choose not to rest,
Winterfest parties being the ones they crash best.
They sleep 'till the winter, wake with a scowl,
and put on a snarl for lack of aparrel.

They form not a group, not a mob, but a horde.
They hop in their old 1939 Ford.
They ride into Haven and pinpoint their target:
the blasted red goo! or so they would call it.

"To arms! to arms!" the courier panicked.
"The veins of this 'fest Grinchlins do constrict!
"Will a hero stand up? will the fair lady save us?
"Oh, who am I kidding! They're running 'round reinless!"

Turmoil, mayhem, toil and trouble!
Trashing and bashing so vile and feral!
"There's not any hope!" one downed kinght did outcry.
"Glorp! glorp! blahhrugrhgr!" the old Claus did not lie.

But look! from the gates, a squad of knights four!
Salvation apparent by their trips to the Core!
To flourish their blades only they can prove worthy!
Their guns only aimed at Grinchlins, I pr'ythee!

They puncture the fiends with abnormal strength,
enduring their blistering cold at much length!
Grinchlins make haste in their bid to escape,
only to meet with that same pointed shape.

The knight squad victorious after treacherous war,
declaring the Grinchlins defeated once more.
The onslaught has ended, the struggle is done.
All that's left now is Impostoclaus' fun!

So come, take a seat, do grab a cold beer!
Alpha squad victorious, there's no more to fear!
Winterfest is saved and one thing is clear:
all hearts now sing with holiday cheer!

After careful consideration, we have our winners!

In first place, taking home a lovely Penta, is Doofta!

In second, receiving a loovely 600ce, is Alp!

In third, arming themself with fifty snowballs, is Mushy!

Wait a second, what? I won a contest about poetry? I guess I gotta expect the unexpected...
